Our Founding Story
I got the call every working parent dreads — your child needs to be picked up from school. A few bumps. Possibly hand, foot, and mouth disease. Please come now.
What followed was a $40 copay, four hours of lost work, and a pediatrician who confirmed what I already suspected — my son was fine and could have stayed in school.
I am Felicia Steele, DMSc, PA-C, a licensed Physician Assistant with 11 years of clinical experience. I know what that rash looks like. I knew it from the description alone. But without a clinical resource available to the school, there was no choice but to send him home.
That afternoon, Uala Health was born — because no parent should lose a workday, and no child should lose a school day, over something a five-minute telehealth call could resolve.
Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose.
Uala Health exists to bridge the gap between school and families by providing immediate, expert clinical guidance when a student's health condition is uncertain.
Rather than defaulting to sending children home or leaving teachers without clinical support, Uala Health offers schools a licensed PA available for real-time telehealth consultations — reducing unnecessary physician visits, minimizing classroom disruption, and giving parents confidence that their child's health concern has been professionally evaluated.
